The point of Eras are to keep track of how well a series has grown out to be, starting from just a simple idea made only by motivation, to a continuing long running series. Here is the series timeline as of today:
The very first video of All Star Smashers started at a time grounded videos were going to be the main focus due to its odd popularity. But then one day, Exotix7 decided to put his Go!Animating skills to the test by making an epic Super Smash Bros. based battle consisting of only 2 characters and their normal attacks. These 2 characters were Lee Saunderson and Sonny Slaven. There was no music, entrances, damage counts or a KO blast just the characters and the stage. The winner of the fight was Lee Saunderson. It was unknown what these characters' special moves were. For some reason, a victory theme wasn't added either, but it did in future videos.
It was later revealed this was meant to be a fight scene in Story Mode: The Stretch Squad.
It was named the "Limited Era" because at that time, every special move had to be released in a separate video due to the 30 second time limit since Go!Animate is a business site. On YouTube however, the movesets came in full packages all thanks to the YouTube Video Editor.
It was decided that confirmed fighters, Lee Saunderson and Sonny Slaven would get movesets like Smash Bros Lawl. Lee's moveset was in the works first, and Sonny's was second. In the intro of Lee's moveset, 6 characters were shown on the character selection screen, which showed Lee, Sonny, Brad Till, Matthew Whitehead, Harry Bradshaw and Brodi Welsford. Along with these 6 were question marks on the bottom revealing future playable characters. All 6 of these characters got their movesets in this Era. Plus, after a hiatus, Amanda the Panda and Oscar the White Tiger were also made in this Era.
This era also marked the first appearances for Smash Jarin, Talking Joe, Pete the Cheerful Bus Driver, Hilary, Edward Yui and Captain Underpants. However, none of their movesets were made in this Era.
It was called the "the Business Era" because Exotix7 had upgraded his Go!Animate account to some business upgrade for one year. He did it so he could make full videos on his account and also so he can make a proper avatar for Smash Jarin and some other custom made characters. Everyone from him to Edward Yui were made in that Era. Lee also had his Classic Safari in that Era.
Ironically, Captain Underpants first appeared on the roster in that era even though he got his moveset the era after.
This was the Era when All Star Smashers started getting a lot of attention.
This era began as soon as Captain Underpants' moveset was released. After his moveset, an Empty Slot came with potential ideas for official characters and characters requested by the viewers being the candidates.
Later on, non-sensical YouTuber Yuuki Ogata was also given a moveset, as the second Joke Character on the roster. (As well as the only Original character in the Attention Era) While he was originally non-canon, he was given such popular demand that he was made a part of the canon roster in the end after all.
This era was named after the invasion in Story Mode: The Stretch Squad where levels of this mode started taking place in that era.
This era began, immediately after the Items showcase. The first video of this new era was the second All Star Smashers Empty Slot, which included some new faces, and all the characters from the first one, with the exception of Garfield and Action 52.
Following him was Action 52, who was a runner-up from the 1st Empty Slot. During the KO Sounds and Taunts of his moveset, 6 more playable characters were revealed. They were Finn Palmer, Tim Carter, Angry Boss, Bruceton, Dan Gough and Grandpa Gorilla. Only Finn was made in this Era though.
After Finn's moveset, the results for Empty Slot 2 came early, where the winner was revealed to be Chadtronic.
The HTML Era began when Go!Animate migrated off to HTML5 and all the older themes were removed. Luckily, Exotix7 was prepared for that and saved all the avatars he needed to make his upcoming movesets.
It's first instalment was Chadtronic's moveset. In the moveset, All Star Smashers received a massive revamp, to look more like Super Smash Bros 4. At the end of Chad's moveset, the roster was revealed to have an empty space between Sonny Slaven and Oscar the White Tiger. To fill this space and complete the roster, a surprise character was revealed at the very end of the moveset, that newcomer fittingly enough being Sonny's younger brother, Billy Slaven. His moveset was uploaded a week after Chad's moveset. After Billy's moveset, All Star Smashers revealed its first Narrator video, which turned out to be the Go!Animate voice, French Fry, whose appearance in the game in literally French Fries. Following this was the second level of Story Mode, which was Sherlock's Home.
A week after Sherlock's House, another surprise inclusion was added. This character was literally nothing at all, better known as Thin Air. In the outro to The Air's moveset, it was revealed the following 3 movesets would be Tim Carter, Angry Boss and Bruceton. After The Boss' moveset, a tournament was created to determine the winner of Empty Slot 3, with a few new faces, as well as the return of all the Empty Slot 2 candidates, with the exception of Chadtronic, Billy Slaven, Diesel and Megan Williams. The winner of this Empty Slot was Greg Heffley.
End of the Crater Era
Named after reaching the final stop of the Business Plan journey. It began with a new Narrator video of Exotix7 himself, being listed under his real name, Jack Mayhew. As well as a new Narrator video, there was also a bonus feature showcasing Matthew Whitehead's alt, Elouise Pitman, and details on the stages UnBoxing Room, Space Jam and Chubby Life.
After this video, Exotix7's Business Plan expired, ending this Era and putting All Star Smashers on hiatus.
Exotix7 had much less time on his hand, making Elouise technically the only character to receive a moveset in this Era.
Despite the hiatus, Exotix7 continued to make plans for All Star Smashers, including a new Era when he was able to make All Star Smashers videos again. After initially not having a name, Jack decided to name the new Era the Separation Era. It was called this after the announcement that all of the Original Characters were gonna be made DLC, while the Official Characters remained on the normal roster.
As well as a new Era, Jack has also planned for 8 new characters, all of which were going to have their movesets take place in the Separation Era. They were revealed to be Super Minecraft Kid, Empty Slot 3 winner Greg Heffley, Harry Hill, Otto Hill, Tabatha the Tortoise, Ollie the Snow Leopard, Moody Margaret and Professor Poopypants. However, only SMK and Greg's movesets were made in this Era.
Shortly after the announcement of the new Era, the 4th All Star Smashers Empty Slot was announced, which included both veterans and newcomers. And during the midst of this Empty Slot, Jack announced a 5th Empty Slot was going to take place alongside the 4th one, which featured 10 newcomers. It was later revealed that the winners of these 2 Empty Slots were Steve Burns and Fred Flintstone respectively. Both of their movesets will take place after Professor Poopypants.
After an over 2-year hiatus, Super Minecraft Kid's moveset was finally uploaded. Greg Heffley's moveset would also be uploaded later on. In the description of his moveset, it was announced that the next video would be an update patch, with the current 32 characters receiving updates on their movesets, with Exotix7 also giving fans the chance to share their own ideas for the characters' moves. However, due to the heavy amount of ideas fans had given Jack for the Update Patch, it was announced on the All Star Smashers Facebook page that the Update Patch video would be delayed, and another All Star Smashers related video would be on its way first to save the long wait.
That video was later revealed to be the first volume of a rebooted Stage showcase video, showcasing all of the non-home stages. Not only that, but this video was also the beginning of a new era in All Star Smashers, named the Ultimate Era, referencing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the newest Smash Bros. game. It was revealed that all of the Original Characters would no longer be DLC, and that all of the characters would be together on the same roster once again. Along with that, a lot of modernized changes will occur in this Era too, such as the aforementioned Stages video, and the Update Patch, which will now take place during this Era. Also, Smash Jarin and Caillou were renamed MimeFan and Go!Caillou respectively. And finally, the remaining characters Jack had planned to make will all receive their movesets in this Era instead.
After a while of planning, the first character to receive an Update Patch was revealed to be none other than Lee Saunderson, who received an entirely new moveset, based on Lee's actual videos. Also in this moveset, it was announced that the editor for All Star Smashers, Chase Matthew was added to the game as a Narrator.
Later on during this Era, All Star Smashers had reached its 5-year anniversary. And to celebrate, Exotix7 decided to make a Q&A video, where he answered questions given to him by the All Star Smashers community, also using his real voice for the video.
After the Q&A video, (and a Let's Play of the Yume Nikki fangame, Me) Sonny Slaven's update patch was also made. Unlike Lee's, Sonny's wasn't a completely revamped moveset. However, his moves were still altered. After his Update Patch, it was announced that a votation was chosen to choose what the next All Star Smashers video would be, with the winning option being the moveset of Harry Hill, confirming his moveset as the next video.
During the wait for his moveset, it was announced that Spirits were being added to All Star Smashers as well, with various characters being announced. During this time, Donny Dlaven, Captain Blunderpants, Lily and Genesis 52 were all announced as the Memory Fighters for Sonny Slaven, Captain Underpants, Maxwell and Action 52 respectively, alongside Elouise Pitman, who was promoted from being merely an alt for Matthew Whitehead. Additionally, Moody Margaret was also switched from being a separate character to also being a Memory Fighter for Horrid Henry, while Dennis the Menace was confirmed as a new character and Henry's new rival. It was also announced that Tabatha the Tortoise would no longer be a solo character, and would now have Emrly the Snail joining her, making them a tag team.
Near the end of the year, Exotix7 uploaded a video on Christmas titled "Oh I wish it could be All Star Smashers everyday!", which despite the name, was not a cover of the famous song by Slade sung by the ASS cast. Instead, it was a video that showcased many new features, including a stage showcase for Santa's Grotto Under the Tree, the reveal of Mark the Moose as Ollie the Snow Leopard's Rival, most of Horrid Henry's Classic Safari victory quotes, and a new roster, revealing all the playable characters, and 8 new characters as well. Their identities remained a mystery until the All Star Smashers Direct.
It would later be confirmed on Discord that Blue from Blue's Clues was also confirmed for the roster, joining her owner Steve Burns as a tag team as well.
After a long time, All Star Smashers revealed its first ever Direct, which featured Donny Dlaven's aforementioned moveset, update patches for every Assist Trophy and Item revealed so far, the promotion of Russ the Goat from an Assist Trophy to the Memory Fighter for Amanda the Panda, the reveals of Sooly, Rodrick Heffley, Zookeeper, The Cat in Live Hat, Mishiro Usui, Admiral Bubbles, The Toad and Neptune as playable characters, the confirmation of Dantavius as a new Narrator, Classic Safari win quotes for Hilary, Edward Yui, Garfield and Chadtronic, and an ASStation segment where Neptune and Harry Hill announced future plans for ASS.
